Shockwave therapy

Shockwave Therapy is an emerging treatment regularly used in sports and musculoskeletal medicine for soft tissue injuries (i.e. Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis).

There is a growing body of evidence that supports the use of shockwave therapy to help injured tissues heal.

How Does Shockwave Therapy work?

It is a non-invasive treatment in which high frequency shockwaves are delivered to the affected tendon or ligament to stimulate healing. Typically, healing of these structures can be slow and conditions can become chronic (be present for a number of years) as they do not have blood vessels running through them. Blood is the mechanism that the body uses to heal, so reduced blood flow means longer healing times. The sound waves stimulate blood flow surrounding the tissues and hence promote healing.

More detailed Medical effects:
– New Blood Vessel Formation
– Reversal of Chronic Inflammation
– Stimulation of Collagen Production
– Dissolution of Calcified Fibroblasts
– Dispersion of Pain Mediator “Substance P”
– Release of Trigger Points
